SESERAGI (せせらぎ) is a premium, high-texture photography backdrop composed of authentic woven rayon fabric layered onto a specialized paper substrate. Produced in Kyoto, Japan, this backdrop features hand-guided curved weaving lines instead of standard linear configurations.
Following the weaving process, the textile is subjected to a mechanical twisting and wrinkling treatment. This structural engineering creates a permanent vertical pleat across the surface, providing a non-digital, physically textured background. The raw rayon fibers offer a completely matte finish, absorbing and scattering studio light to eliminate artificial glare.

Is this an authentic piece? How should I care for it?

Can I use it for vertical shots, or only for flat lays?
▶Absolutely. Since the material is flexible and paper-like, you can easily hang it vertically using clips to create a professional backdrop for straight-on shots. Beyond flat lays, the authentic physical textures capture light in a way that creates incredible depth. I love how the vertical threads are straight while the horizontal threads have a subtle wave to them. It feels so much more special than a standard straight-thread fabric, and it really makes the material pop. Thank you!

I imagined it would be thick and heavy, but it's actually thin and lightweight—truly living up to the reputation of clever Japanese lightweight engineering. As for the product itself, I thought the vertical lines might be a bit too strong from the photos, but when shooting straight-on, the lines aren't distracting at all, and angling the backdrop makes those vertical lines really stand out. It's fun playing with different angles depending on what you're shooting. That said, I wish it were a bit wider for portrait photography. If they come out with a larger width size, I'd definitely buy it.
I've never seen a textile quite like this! Fabric with wavy, undulating threads is so rare and unique.
I tried dropping some water on it during a shoot, but it doesn't repel water—it just soaks right in. On the plus side, it's super lightweight and a breeze to carry around.
The texture and expression were just like the product images! I'm looking forward to placing various items on it and experimenting with shoots.
