SOUha Backdrop No.002 "YOKUYA" / Sacred Stone

SOUha Backdrop No.002 "YOKUYA" / Sacred Stone

YOKUYA (沃野) embodies the mystical essence and raw, magnificent power of natural stone.

This extraordinary backdrop is crafted by meticulously dispersing vermiculite—a natural mineral derived from biotite and phlogopite mica—onto a premium fleece backing, finished with a refined surface coloration.

Every single mineral grain possesses its own unique shape and character. As they blend together, they create a highly tactile, three-dimensional surface that mimics the rich texture of an ancient stone wall. Balancing rustic wabi-sabi aesthetics with modern organic luxury, "YOKUYA" provides an unparalleled depth that beautifully elevates artisan pottery, raw wooden art objects, and premium leather goods.

Product Details:

  • Construction: Premium aggregate texture made of layered mica minerals (vermiculite) on a fleece backing with surface coloration.

  • Visual Effect: A highly tactile, matte surface with extreme depth that beautifully diffuses and absorbs light, giving your shots a heavy, grounded presence.

  • Water Resistance: The material itself is water-resistant. However, due to its highly textured, rugged gravel surface, stains cannot be easily wiped off. Please handle with care.

Recommended For: Artisan ceramics, raw leather goods, wooden objects, and organic lifestyle branding.

Available Sizes:

  • A4 (Sample): Perfect for checking the texture and small product shots.

  • 600mm x 900mm (Standard): Ideal for general product photography and flat lays.

  • 1800mm x 900mm (Large): Best for portrait and model photography (headshots/half-body). Its long vertical reach allows for a seamless, artistic background in professional studios.

Is this an authentic piece? How should I care for it?

▶Unlike mass-produced vinyl prints, our products are crafted using genuine natural materials such as Washi paper, gold leaf, linen, stone, and real leaves. Each piece is individually finished by skilled Japanese artisans to ensure a unique texture and depth. To maintain its quality, gently remove dust with a soft brush or air duster. We recommend avoiding direct sunlight to preserve its authentic luster for decades.

Can I use it for vertical shots, or only for flat lays?

▶Absolutely. Since the material is flexible and paper-like, you can easily hang it vertically using clips to create a professional backdrop for straight-on shots. Beyond flat lays, the authentic physical textures capture light in a way that creates incredible depth. By using side lighting, you can achieve a sophisticated play of shadows and textures that changes beautifully with every angle.

Exact match for what I wanted—real minerals with incredible texture

I was looking for a natural rock-like background and bought this because it was an exact match for what I had in mind. I thought it might be plastic, so I scratched it with my nail and some mineral particles came off, which made me realize it really uses genuine minerals. Getting this quality with real minerals for this price feels like an absolute steal. It’s not just a flat print; the surface has real, rugged bumps and textures. By letting in natural light and playing with shadows, I’ve been able to capture some truly striking promotional photos.

Mesmerizing backlit effect through the stone gaps

This is amazing! If you shine a light from behind, the light peeks right through the gaps in the stone and looks insanely ethereal and magical!

Keeping it safe from heavy pressure, and it works great

I saw a review mentioning that once it indents, it doesn't bounce back, so I've been careful not to step or lean on it while handling. It's been working out with zero issues so far.

Surprisingly lightweight with a cool, edgy surface

The description said it was background paper made from mica, so I expected a hard mineral, but it's surprisingly soft and lightweight. Sometimes if your fingernail hits it or scratches it, a bit of the mica flakes off, but the surface looks so cool that I still love it.

Looks amazing, but watch out for heavy pressure

It looks super cool, but the stone is softer than I expected. If you step on it with shoes or put your knees on it, it dents right there and leaves a footprint that won't go back to normal. Definitely best not to place heavy objects on top of it.

Unique handmade feel with gorgeous random mineral details

I've never seen a background paper made from minerals before and got curious, so I ordered it. I thought it would be a flat, solid-colored stone, but it has these shimmering pieces mixed in with a random, natural pattern that gives it a lovely handmade feel.

A rare, one-of-a-kind material that instantly elevates my jewelry shots

I'm a big fan of SOUha's materials, and this one is so unique—you just can't find anything else like it! I use it constantly for shooting my earrings and jewelry. It instantly kicks up the quality of photos a notch, which is a huge lifesaver. Honestly, since it feels like such a hidden-gem brand, a part of me wants to keep it a secret.

Arrived way faster than expected!

Since it was shipping from Japan, I figured it would take around a month to arrive, but it got to me in about a week. Much faster than I expected, which was a huge help!

Gorgeous material, though the shedding is a minor downside

The material itself is gorgeous and I'm very happy with it. The only negative point is that little bits of stone flakes tend to shed and fall off.

Took a leap of faith from flat colored paper, and it totally paid off

I've always used flat colored paper for my backdrops, so I was hesitant and worried about whether a natural material backdrop would live up to my expectations. Taking the chance on it turned out to be the right move. Even though it comes rolled up, once you unroll it, it has genuine stone bumps with wonderful tonal depth and a truly dimensional look. Thank you so much!
